The Elusive Shift Drink

Oh shift drink, such a an elusive creature you are.

If you don't know, a shift drink is something that servers love. It's a free drink you receive before or after your shift at a restaurant.

The problem is, I've never known somebody that's had one.

Apparently, it's not something chain restaurants enjoy doing. Giving away free alcohol makes them angry. It's all about the $$ ya know.

I can tell you that after a busy dinner shift, nothing sounds better than some form of alcohol. You need to shake off the shittiness and maybe get a little buzz on.

That's why servers always go out for drinks after work. And spend all the money we just earned. Which really sucks for us.

My solution? Every restuarant gives a shift drink? Happy servers make happy customers.

Where's my drink at?

lol I have never heard of this! I have worked in many bars, restaurants, etc in Aus and USA - no one ever gave me a free drink! rude. the most I get is free soda.

haha I worked at a country club and my whole day was one big shift drink. The members weren't allowed alcohol by the pool, so I would sneak it to them in plastic cups and they would share, told me to order whatever I want on their members tab :) And the days I was a beer girl, driving the beer cart around the course? No beer was safe. Best job I have ever had.

That sounds like a great idea! We used to always go to a bar after work when I was waitressing.
